For some, it’s the two most beautiful words in the English language, welcome home..
And for 115 3rd Infantry Division soldiers, they got to hear those words Wednesday for the first time in nine months.
And, family and friends were at Fort Stewart to give them a heroes return.
No matter how many times you see it, it never gets old..
Joyful families welcoming their loved ones home from a nine month deployment. This time it’s the rest of the soldiers from the 3rd ID Division Headquarters.
"It’s a great feeling, a really great feeling," said SPC Shaquille Wilson. "We went on a mission, came back, glad to have our family with us, my wife, my son, it’s good to be back."
"It’s great, it’s great," said LTC Will Arnold. "This is the third time we’ve been doing this in the last three years, so it’s great to be doing it, and be home after nine months in Afghanistan."
For the families, the final moments leading up to the return must have seemed like an eternity, but it’s a moment they’re glad is here.
"The kids, they didn’t understand and they just miss their dad," said Carol Bonnema, Soldier’s Wife. "They see other dads, they’re so happy to have him here."
"Wow, I’ve been waiting for him since November," said Angelica Babon, Soldier’s Wife. "So yay, finally he’s home."
So now, the entire 3rd ID Division Headquarters has returned home, but there still are some Fort Stewart soldiers deployed, there’s a group over in Afghanistan still and there’s a whole brigade that’s over in South Korea.
The soldiers will have the next few days off to spend with their families before going through reintegration training.
